Figure Panel Arranger
Stop nudging panels around in PowerPoint. Drop in your gels, micrographs, graphs and structures in any size and shape; the arranger searches thousands of layouts and suggests the tightest ones for a Nature, Cell, PNAS or ACS column, a slide or a poster. Swap and resize panels with a click, add A/B/C labels, and export TIFF, PNG, PDF, SVG or an editable PowerPoint slide. Your images never leave your computer.
Figure Panel Arranger
Drop in your figure panels in any size. The arranger finds layouts with no wasted white space for a journal column, a slide or a poster, adds panel labels and exports a publication-ready figure. Your images never leave your computer.
1 · Add your panels
How to use this step
- Add panels: drop files here, click to browse, or paste an image (Ctrl/⌘+V). PNG, JPG, TIFF (8- or 16-bit), SVG and PDF (first page) are accepted.
- Order = panel letters. Use the arrows to reorder. In step 2 you can let the arranger change the order if you do not mind.
- Size: give an important panel more space (L, XL) or a small inset less (S).
- Trim removes white or transparent margins around each panel, so the gaps between panels are exactly what you set.
- Rotate a panel in 90° steps with ⟳.

2 · Choose a layout
How to use this step
- Format: pick a journal column, a slide or a poster, or type your own size. Journal widths change now and then; check your journal’s guide.
- Suggestions: the six best arrangements found. Inside every layout the panels touch with exactly the gap you set; any leftover space is only at the edges.
- Swap panels: click one panel in the preview, then another.
- Resize: select a panel and press Bigger or Smaller; the arranger reflows the rest.
- Find more layouts searches again with a different random start.

3 · Labels & style
How to use this step
- Most journals want bold panel letters in Arial or Helvetica at 8–10 pt; Nature uses lowercase bold 8 pt.
- Above the panel reserves a thin strip for each letter so it never covers your data. Inside places it on the panel’s top-left corner.
- Letters follow the reading order of the layout: left to right, top to bottom.
4 · Export
Which format should I use?
- TIFF or PNG at 300–600 dpi for journal submission (600 dpi for line art and graphs).
- PDF or SVG keep the labels as real text and every panel at its original resolution; SVG opens in Illustrator, Inkscape and PowerPoint for final touches.
- PowerPoint puts each panel on a slide as a separate picture with editable labels, sized to your figure.
Tip: click a panel to select it, then click another to swap them.
